It's Been 10 years

The 10th year anniversary of 9/11 was a special one. With more questions than answers about that faithful day it was calming, and emotional to see all those names read next to the new 9/11 memorial. This day was also special because I was going to my first NFL game. First game of the season and it was electric. The building was packed, the parking lot full of beer, cheeseburgers, hot dogs, games of catch and music. There were people everywhere just waiting to watch New York’s team face America’s team.
The stadium was electric, as a Cowboys fan I wasn’t sure I was going to make it out the stadium alive, or in cuffs. But once the opening ceremonies came, something special happened. As the soldiers rolled out the 80 yard long flag as the star spangled banner sang, the stadium erupted. Not in J-E-T-S Jets, Jets, Jets, but in a chant of U-S-A. It was one of the few moments I remember where we drop the colors and being fans, and came together as Americans once again.
Thereafter George Bush walked onto the field, in a very loud roar of cheers. Surprising to me as, well, you can guess the trouble he ended up putting this nation. But this day was not about teams, or politics, or me. It was about a country that came together when needed, and responded to an event that is the Pearl Harbor of our generation. I am just glad I happened to be there.
